Learning Letter
Throughout the semester, I have practiced critical skills that I will use on a daily basis in the field of public relations. I have gained experience in public relations writing and techniques that will directly support the rest of my education and career. From crafting compelling stories to understanding where and when to use the various PR communication methods, I now have a strong foundation in the core responsibilities I will take on in a professional setting.
One of the most beneficial aspects of this course, in my opinion, was having the opportunity to work on professional social media development and personal brand building. It gave me a space to figure out what I want to say and how to deliver and present myself. These exercises help me refine my ability to create purposeful and engaging content, which is important in my field of work. Additionally, the portfolio development throughout the semester has significantly contributed to my confidence and readiness for future opportunities that may arise. Seeing my own personal growth through the assignments like the news release, feature article and podcast assignment has reinforced the importance of understanding and knowing the power of the different types of PR writing.
Among all of these assignments, my favorite projects were the blog post and social media content. These allowed me to be creative while trying to achieve the strategic goal of creating a purpose and meaning behind a message. On the other hand, working on the feature article made me realize that a journalistic style of writing may not be the best fit for me. While I approach storytelling, I prefer formats that give me more flexibility to try creative messaging that drives engagement.
Overall, this class has provided me with a well-rounded understanding of the expectations and tasks I may encounter in a PR career. I now feel more prepared to develop effective communication strategies. This can range from tailoring content for a target audience to leveraging platforms to enhance a brand's identity. The skills I have practiced here will continue to support my growth and success in both educational and professional fields moving forward.
